Subject: SDF Newsletter August 2004 <-------------------------------------------------------------------------> [1] Additional SprintLink T1 installed [2] SDF stainless steel 'travel' MUG [3] VHOST membership dues reduced [4] SDF Compilation Volume I CDs and Volume II submissions <-------------------------------------------------------------------------> [1] Additional SprintLink T1 installed We are now BGP peered with three full T1s. Two go to sprintlink and one to Savvis. The second SprintLink T1 was installed a few weeks ago and has recently been brought up to load balance with our main SprintLink and Savvis connections. Utilisation is fairly low and balanced across the three .. so if you are experiencing a lag it is most likely somewhere along the way. (BTW, I use covad.net at home and these past few months its gotten really bad getting anywhere in the evenings. I think they've really over provisioned their circuits, so lots of their customers are probably suffering from it.) [2] SDF stainless steel 'travel' MUG Several people have asked that one be made and I can spring for the cost of producing them if there are enough people interested. I want a nice quality Swedish stainless steel travel mug with a removable lid with an imprinted SDF logo (from the stickers/tshirt) that will last a long time. What I need to know is who would donated for one, how much you would donate and how many you would want. There is currently a discussion on the 'bboard' in regarding this. If you have an opinion, please post it there. [3] VHOST membership dues reduced Now that VHOST quotas have been made active, I've created several tiers for the VHOST membership which will allow VHOST members to get a break on their membership dues if they have low usage. The previous quota for a $14/month VHOST membership was 200MB of transfers a day. The new breakdown looks like this: Membership dues Quota $12/mo 50MB/day $14/mo 200MB/day <-- previous dues and quota $16/mo 300MB/day $18/mo 400MB/day $20/mo 500MB/day You can change your tier at anytime during your membership. [4] SDF Compilation Volume I CDs and Volume II submissions We've still got plenty of CDs of the first SDF compilation available for $6 shipped in the US or $8 else where. You can donate through the usual channels (paypal or the PO BOX).
