X-Keywords: X-UID: 52 Status: RO Content-Length: 2005 Lines: 39 I'm in the final stages of negotiating a new lease for SDF. I've narrowed it down to two possible choices and both of them will provide excellent network capacity for SDF now and in the future. One provider peers with the MAE at 155mbit across the united states and is very flexible in the bandwidth that SDF uses. While this will increase our costs, I think it is the direction we need to go and I'm willing to continue to fund the system out of my pocket to see it happen. You can help by donating to our non-profit corporation (SDF Public Access UNIX System) or by contributing for one of the new accounts levels (see http://freeshell.org for more info). Our PAYPAL ID is support@freeshell.org also, donations may be sent to PO BOX 61187 Seattle WA 98121. I'm current out of town at the moment, so I can not do the physically move until December 21st. This is a perfect time for the move as most people will be celebrating the holidays and system usage will be at a minimum. I don't suspect there will be much downtime except when I am physically moving the machines from the old office to the new datacentre. I will do everything I can to make this as smooth as possible. At the same time, 'otaku' will *really* return. I'm sorry I've been busy, but it in all honesty I felt there was no rush because of the excellent performance of our single DEC Alpha 5305. Even though it is doing a wonderful job, I went ahead and bought a second processor board for it as well as 'otaku' .. This should definately give us plenty of future power. These Alphas definately out perform AMD Althon 1ghz CPUs if you are wondering. We saw an average of 176,000 crypts per second versus the 35,000 crypts per second on the AMD. Don't forget about the Sun SuperSparcII which is currently handling our MUD and hopefully future MUDs and peaceful IRC robots. Thank you for your support .. I hope that your support will continue in the future to help SDF grow and expand for many years. Stephen Jones
