Hey, welcome again to my website. Here I would like to indulge in writing a thing or two about myself, in case someone is curious!
You might or might not know some of the following, but it bears repeating:
My interests, as pertaining to the contents of this site, stem from an uneasy interest in computing: Consider both the potential inherent in computer systems (the automation of menial work, the ability to efficiently cross-reference knowledge, the speed of access, breakdown of geographical boundaries, etc.), but at the same time the apparent struggle humans have at actualising the same power.
I would like to believe that my interest in computers remains founded in the potential I believe it has in other activities (which doesn't inherently undermine the engagement with computing for it's own sake). For instance, while I do know to appreciate a physical book, I do enjoy the advantages of an Ebook (mass storage, dictionary lookup, easy markup and commentary; even if these are now always fully realised, for social/political reasons).
But of course, I don't want to make the impression that I am obsessed with computers. I fancy myself an average Joe, who likes to spend time with friends, go out for a walk or a bike-ride to stay fit, has an interest in cinema, literature and philosophy and likes to learn and discuss these things. It is just that I don't feel like I have anything interesting or authoritative enough to say that I would want to publish on these topics (as of now).
My academic interests lie in theoretical computer science, specifically programming language semantics and type systems.
The site you are reading this on is hosted
by SDF,
a public
access Unix system. In the past, I have self-hosted my personal
website (and continue to do so for other things) under domain names
such
as pk.3n.cc, dy.st.ax, zge.us.to, ruzkuku.com,
or most recently amodernist.com.
During my undergraduate studies, the computer lab offered all students
to create and host their own homepage. I ended up maintaining
my CIP-Seite
for over 7 years, and it was the most influential on the structure of
this site. Either way: I grew fond of the shared hosting
aspect over time, and decided to merge the two sites into one. You
see the result here, so judge for yourself.
