19 jun 06 "When will we have a Boricua president in this country?" when two things happen: 1) one sneaks his way into the mainstream puerto rican population without telling anyone of his amerindian roots. 2) the number of voting hispanics in the usa exceeds the number of voting anglophones (a distinct possibility). so, maybe at some point, especially if the boricua in question is into family values and all that crap. but when, exactly, will this happen? well, by 2500, linguistically and visually distinct ethnic groups (races, if you're into that word) will be so muddled that no one will be able to tell if you're a boricua or not. of course, it's doubtful the usa will exist as a nation-state then, let alone have a president, but this is one of the best-case scenarios. it's possible that united states culture will evolve past the WASP president ethic before its empire disintegrates, in which case maybe a catholic female handicapped short boricua will ascend to office before 2500. but it's a crapshoot, really. remember, there are always write-in ballots ("boricua x") |
