"What does it all mean?"

i guess you mean "what is the meaning of life?" or, perhaps "what is the purpose of life?" the purpose of life is to make more life -- that's what life does. sorry to be so prosaic, but the purpose of life is to reproduce. at least that was the intended purpose.

the nice thing about these over-evolved sacks of grey matter we carry in our wobbly, precariously-balanced heads is that we can make the purpose of life anything we want. furthermore, "purpose" isn't what we should be focusing on. i'm going to repeat this for the third time, becaues i think it was a good thought: if you have no reason to be, then just be.

however, it's important that we enjoy our being, or else there isn't really any point to it.

the question "why are we here?" is a little bit more difficult. why does anything exist? what is this reality we perceive around us? and why this particular one, instead of just a blue sphere floating over a ground of red geometric shapes?

perhaps this is the only way it could have turned out. once you assume that anything exists (let's say the "cosmic egg", or pre-big bang mass), then existence has no choice but to spread out into stars, plants, life on those planets, and eventual evolution of that life into beings smart enough to create civilization. nothing else is possible, because of the mechanics of the physical universe.

what does it all "mean"? it means that existence exists. that's all. furthermore, the "purpose" of existence is to further itself -- to give way to more existence. to keep the ongoing beat of the cosmos sounding. why? because there's joy to be experienced there, if you work through some things, or at least get on the right antidepressant.

why does anything exist? if nothing existed, then something would exist. that's annoying; basically what i mean is that non-existence might not be possible.
