A Blog-like Entity

yay you're back!

actually, i was never gone. my domain just re-directed somewhere else for a few days -- it happens to be re-directing here, at the moment (and at most other moments). look up at your location bar (where the address of the current site is printed), and notice that it says "barnacle.gomen.org". "barnacle" is a subdomain of "gomen.org", and it represents my webspace on this server -- that which is controlled by the user "barnacle" (me). try going to gomen.org. what you see is the website of the stack of computers and internet community that host this website. at various times in its life, my domain has resolved straight into nameservers on a host (you actually see the domain in the location bar), but often it just redirects to wherever i'm currently storing my site (barnacle.beevomit.org, afraid.org, some IP address, etc).

every so often, i worry about people discovering horrible things about me and re-direct my domain to the wikipedia page on barnacles. however, my registrar (gandi.net) recently made it very easy for a registrant to forge his identity (check the whois on my domain, if you know what it is). another layer of mystery.

ideally, i'd like to destroy that domain entirely, and start over with a new one. however, apparently a lot of people get here that way; i even know of one person (i don't know who it is) who searches for the domain in yahoo name every time, and then clicks on the search results, instead of typing anything in the location bar. weird.

bookmark this page, and get here that way -- my domain is just a re-direct.

but i'm happy to get a "yay you're back"!
